A Micro Adventure to the Rose Theatre
At the Wolverley meet a small group of us went to see "Inspector Drake and the Perfekt Crime" at the Rose Theatre in Kidderminster, less than one mile from the camp site.
We decided to walk (in the rain) and found ourselves on a very busy road, which was very unpleasant. Luckily, Sheelagh noticed a small footpath into the "wilds" and after a short discussion we decided it had to be a much better choice than the busy road!
Many of us think of adventures as being big trips, lasting several days, perhaps to some remote island, mountain, or whatever. However, a lot of pleasure can be gained by thinking of going on mini adventures, such as a camping weekend away somewhere new or, as in this case a micro-adventure, simply going off on a walk somewhere new!
We walked past Court Farm, then behind the playing fields of Heathfield Knoll School, which is a 400 year old private school, through the woods of Springfield Park and out onto Sion Hill. After a nice meal at the Hare and Hounds we walked the short distance over to the theatre.
The Rose Theatre has been owned since 1981 by "The Nonentities", a fascinating amateur dramatic company and a registered charity. We were met at the door by a helpful and charming gentleman of a certain age, dressed in his black tie suit.
The play was a sometimes risqué comedy, based on the idea of a whodunit, written by David Tristam. Of course we had to have ice cream during the interval!
I also had a nice chat with a sprightly 85 year old lady who still regularly goes rambling, and her granddaughter, who had just arrived back from Cambridge University where she is doing a masters in architecture. It turned out that the 85 year old lady had worked at the school I mentioned earlier before she retired.
After the play we walked back the same way, thank goodness for head torches! After a couple of wrong turns we returned safely, even seeing a tawny owl swoop in front of us along the site drive.
A very good night was enjoyed by all!
