ALC becomes an affiliate organisation with Cycling UK!

Cyclists have always formed an important part of the ALC, in fact it was a group of cycle tourists who started the ALC (and the Camping and Caravan Club) way back in 1901!

The ALC have just joined Cycling UK (formerly known as the CTC) for a modest annual fee of £88. There are a couple of important benefits of joining Cycling UK as a group:

  1. We can get £10 million public liability insurance for any of our arranged, group lead, cycle rides. Informal cycle rides have been part of ALC meets for many years but this means that a ride leader can benefit from this insurance. However, we need such leaders to be proposed and seconded by the ALC, so if you are interested in leading such rides please let Nigel Jennison, our treasurer know on treasurer@lightweightcampers.org.uk Nigel has already put himself forward as a ride leader, let's have a few more!

  2. We can promote the ALC to Cycling UK (70,000+ members) via a page on their website and by using the forum, which is very active. As we need more, active, members to join us hopefully a few will see the great benefits of joining a social camping group such as ours!

Of course, the ALC welcomes ALL lightweight campers, whether they arrive by cycle, foot or car!

In fact this is a good time to say that the ALC is committed to inclusivity and diversity, and welcome everyone regardless of their age, gender, experience, race, nationality, beliefs, or socio-economic circumstances!
